Description

Ancient forbidden land of Nepal, bordered with Tibet, surrounded by some of the world highest peaks on its vicinity as of Annapurna and Dhaulagiri along with many more mountains. This region is restricted, from1992 onward it opened the door for outside world following the strict regulation to preserve the culture and tradition. Therefore certain number of quota to visitors is applied to respect.

Mustang names come from Tibetan tradition which literally means plain of aspiration. It hold the rich biodiversity and is least populated. Here traditional occupation is farming and herding the livestock. Landscape here is awe-inspiring which is an add on to allure the travellers who are eager to discover such hidden and well maintain treasure.

Itinerary

Upon arrival, a representative from Himalayan Frontiers will receive you at the airport and transfer you to the hotel. Subject to the flight arrival and time, visit can be arranged to cultural and historical importance places such as Kathmandu Durbar Square and Swayambhunath. Swayambhunath Sputa: Swayambhunath Sputa is the most ancient and enigmatic of all the holy shrines in Kathmandu valley. Its lofty white dome and glittering golden spire are visible from miles and from all sides of the valley. Historical records found on a stone inscription give evidence that the stupa was already an important Buddhist pilgrimage destination by the 5th century AD. Durbar Square: Durbar: Square is situated in the hub of the Capital of Nepal, the ancient city of Kathmandu. It is nestled in the fertile valley under the majestic Himalayas. Kathmandu is a part of the ancient trade and pilgrimage route from India to Tibet and China. If time doesn’t allow, you will take rest in hotel Activities for the day. In the evening, you will enjoy the welcome dinner alongside a lovely cultural performance program. Overnight at hotel in Kathmandu.

After breakfast, you will drive to Pokhara. The drive will take around 5-6 hours’ drive to reach Pokhara. Pokhara is the second largest and the most touristic city in Nepal. You will then check in the hotel. After rest walk around the lakeside. At evening you will tack dinner. Overnight at Pokhara.

Today you will take an early flight to Jomsom. The 18 mints flight is the best mountain flight as it passes through the world's deepest gorge wedged between Annapurna I (8,091 m) and Dhaulagiri I (8,167m). Jomsom is a small town on the base of Nilgiris Himal. From here you will mostly follow the river bed of Kali Gandaki to Kagbeni where you will visit old Kagbeni with a 500 years old monastery. Overnight at Kagbeni.

Your journey starts after registering your special permit in check point at Kagbeni. The trail follows the historic salt trading route. It mostly passes through sandy and windy environment. The first village that you will encounter is tangbe. Somehow similar to Kagbeni, narrow alley is between villages is scenic. The houses are mostly whitewashed. Apple orchard is another highlight of Tangbe. The trail follows gentle up and down all the way. Onward from Tangbe, you will reach the small village of Chele. Overnight at Chele.

Today after breakfast you will continue your journey toward Lo. You will pass by Ekle Bhatti.Taklam La pass at an elevation of 3624 m from sea level offer a view of Tilicho Peak and Damodar Danda. As a part of walking in high Himalayas, now you have to descend down from the pass. You will be in another beautiful village of Samar. Again from the village onward, you are supposed to walk up and down. From Samar it might take up to three complete hours to reach Syangboche. During the trail you can chill in the presence of cool streams and juniper trees. Also along the trail you will pass by the famous cave named Ramchung Cave. Overnight at Syanbochen.

Today you will encounter higher pass of Yamda La, at an elevation of 3850 m from sea level. Along the trail you will pass through few lodges, chorten and small Tibetan looking villages. Little longer climb to further higher pass of the Nyi La Pass at an elevation of 4010 m. From the top of Nyi La, you will start the final descent to village of Ghaymi. This is the third largest village in entire Lo. It is entirely surrounded by large barren fields. Main vegetation is barley and potato in the village of Ghaymi. Overnight at Ghaymi.

The you will cross Ghaymi River. Small up is unavoidable. The trail passes next to the longest mani wall. Mani walls are stone carved with Tibetan Prayers on it. Probably Charang (Tsarang) is most picturesque villages in Upper Mustang. From the of long mani wall, you will head east, passing through a maze of fields. There exists a huge Dzong and Gompa that herald the arrival of settlement in Charang. This will be a short day. Late afternoon, depending on wind condition you can walk around and take a picture of the Gompa. It is a very beautiful village. Overnight at Charang.

The most awaited destination of the entire trip, walled city of Lo Manthang. You will also witness the beauty of Nilgiri, Tilicho and Annapurna I. Also Bhrikuti Peak on the side of Damodar Kunda will come into sight. Your trip starts with downhill trail to the canyon. After crossing the river you will start your ascent to the pass of Lo, at an elevation of 3850 m. From the top of the pass, you can see the beautifully stretch village of Lo Manthang. The pass is mostly windy. All you need is to descend to the village of Lo Manthang. Overnight at Lo Manthang.

Multiple options are available for sightseeing in Lo Manthang. You will start with a trip to Namgyal Gompa. This is one of the important monasteries which also serve at a local court. Are you ready for trip to last village on the way to Tibet? The guide will lead the way to village of Tingkhar on the north west of Lo Manthang. If you are not interested in walking, then you can explore few other important monasteries in the village. The God House and Chyodi Gompa are the major highlights of Lo Manthang. Also king’s palace should not be missed. Late afternoon Lo Manthang face strong gusty wind. Overnight at Lo Manthang.

Today you will start your descent back to Jomsom. Passing through Gyakar, there is a trail to Drakmar. You will also explore Ghar Gompa, which is supposed to be 1200 years old. Gompa is attractive with its rock paintings. Myth is your one wish will be fulfilled, if you make it in Ghar Gompa. The area suffers from strong gusty wind almost every afternoon. Starting early from Lo Manthang is considered wise. After wind stops late afternoon you can again walk around the village and explore something local. Overnight at Drakmar.

Direct from Drakmar you will trek to Ghiling. You will start as early as you can as every afternoon there is strong wind from the north of valley. To walk around the settlement of Ghiling, late afternoon will be better. Overnight at Ghiling.

Today you will merge back with the old trail in Chuksang. The view is much better than yesterday. Apart from the deserted landscape view of the high Himalayas will enrich your experience. You will be spending a final night in the last forbidden kingdom.

Final day of Upper Mustang Trek. It might be a little longer. You will have an option of using a jeep from Kagbeni to Jomsom. This could save you three hours of walking. Once you report an exit status in Kagbeni, you will be on the part of the Annapurna Circuit Trail. Depending on the time, you can decide instantly whether to take a jeep back to Jomsom or trek. There is an outlet of Himalayan Java Coffee in Jomsom. Go give it a try for next to nothing. Overnight at Jomsom.

Today you will take the earliest flight to Pokhara. You will then further drive back to Kathmandu. You will have the day free to yourself to visit around Thamel and do some shopping. Overnight at Kathmandu.

After breakfast you will city sightseeing in Kathmandu valley of Pashupatinath, Bouddhanath and Patan Durbar square. Leave to visit Pashupatinath temple is considered as one of the holiest shrines of all the Hindu temples. It is 6 km. in the east of Kathmandu. The temple has remained the presiding deity of ruling Nepalese Royalty. Further to Boudhanath: One of the largest stupa in South Asia is located at Boudhanath. It is considered to be one of the most important Tibetan Buddhism monuments outside of Tibet. There is an entire village around the stupa inhabited mainly by Tibetans. Patan (Lalitpur): This ancient city of Patan also known as Lalitpur is famous for its fine arts, is about 5-kms southeast of Kathmandu. The city is full of Hindu temples and Buddhist monuments.

Hotel mentioned in cities are based on 3* category.

You will have twin or Double sharing room, those who wish to have single room, it will be subject to additional charges (as single room surcharges) and are requested to put the request in advance to assure the availability.

While off Kathmandu and Pokhara you will get accommodation in locally run lodges or guest houses. You will get twin sharing room or may be at certain places where accommodation are limited you will share triple as well, but this is in rare case. To get the single room choice is limited


In the mountains, especially during the high trekking season, it is often not possible to get a single room due to the limited number of lodges and the high number of trekkers. As a result, accommodation must be shared and adjusted as described above in accommodation column. If there is room available and clients want to have single room than it will cost USD 10 -15 per night this can be done on the spot subject to availability.

In the lodges and guest houses toilet and wash room will be mix of attached and common a (Consult the list of lodges below) , one or two places you may get common washroom. You will enjoy cold water bath by buckets and mug or cat bath. To get hot water buckets you have to pay certain amount of Nepalese rupees (equivalent in USD varies from 3 to 4 usd in which is not hefty amount keeping in mind the available resources of energy to heat the water due to geographic location, higher you trek the amount of hot water bucket charge increase which can be an additional add on to the seasonal economy of locals. Where you will find attached bath room facilities such additional amount to get hot water will be not applied.

Where meals are not included in the city of Kathmandu and Pokhara , there are abundance choices of restaurant of Nepalese, Indian, Chinese and continental delicacies. You can calculate10 USD per person per lunch and 15 USD per person per dinner in standard tourist restaurants. However you can go beyond the mentioned budget or can find the budget friendly restaurant in the streets.

Fee to charging camera/mobile batteries in lodges 1 time cost: While trekking there is certain amount to be paid when charging the camera or Mobile battery at each lodges and guest houses, it is 1 to 4 usd and for power bank it will go till USD5.


Entry Permit to the Mustang 500 usd and national park perm 25 usd is included in the cost of the trip, we require scanned passport, visa and scanned photo to obtain the above mentioned permit.

Itineraries may be altered due to landslides, weather, or local events. Vehicle breakdowns, roadblocks, or unforeseen local disruptions may require alternative transport. Client cooperation is requested any extra costs incurred locally must be bare by the client.

Company is not liable for flight cancellations, natural disasters, political unrest, and strikes. Any additional accommodation, transport, or emergency expenses must be covered by the client.

Mandatory for all clients. Must cover: medical expenses, evacuation, and altitude sickness, loss of baggage, trip cancellation, and Helicopter rescue.


Bottled water in towns, boiling or purifying water on in rural is advised, however you will get bottle water in each lodge where you will be staying.


It may happen that flight to or from Pokkara may cancelled, in such case you will drive by road whatever mode of transport is available at the time. In such circumstances co-operations is mandatory for the smooth operation. Any additional expenses appear shall be at the charge of the clients and paid on the spot.
